IELTS Speaking Test Sample 11 – An IELTS Interview

Part 1: Introduction

⏰ Time: 4 to 5 Minutes 

Get ready to answer some personal questions about yourself:

  1. What do you generally do in your free time?
  2. Are you a sociable person, or do you prefer to stay alone?
  3. Are you an introverted or extroverted person?
  4. Do you believe that friendship should be mutual, or can you think of one-sided friendship, as well?
  5. So you don’t believe in fair-weather friendship, do you?
  6. In your leisure time, do you prefer reading books to watching movies?
  7. Which specific genre of books or type of books do you usually read?
  8. Do you like Games of Throne series because of your special interest in historical books?

Part 2: Cue Card

You have 1 minute for brainstorming ?  and 2 minutes for answering ? the following questions:

Focus on this task card, cue card or topic card:

Describe an interesting historic place.

  • You should say:
    • what it is
    • where it is located
    • what you can see there now

and explain why this place is interesting.


Part 3: Details Discussion

Answer some follow-up questions generally about the task card asked by the examiner:

  1. In this IELTS Speaking Test Sample 11, I want you to explain about the effect or influence of history in our lives, please.
  2. So what is the use of reviewing the past events in history?
  3. Are you interested in history and historical issues?
  4. Can you explain or give me a tangible example about how specifically history has helped you in your life as a software engineer?
  5. And what’s your prediction about the future of history? Do you think that it will be taught in schools and universities 2 centuries from now?
  6. Are you interested in history because it is amusing to you, or you like it because it is informative and didactic to you and you can learn many things from it?

  3. The correct pronunciation of the word however  :arrow:  /ˌhaʊˈev.əʳ/
  4. ⚠ When you use although, the next sentence should not start with but.
  5. ❌ when a man or a wife decide to become a family ➡  ✅ when a man and a woman decide to raise a family or even start a family
  6. ❌ soon or late :arrow: ✅ sooner or later
  7. The correct pronunciation of reading with long /i:/  :arrow:  /ˈriː.dɪŋ/

  9. The correct pronunciation of the word museum, with the stress on the third syllable :arrow: /mjuːˈziː.əm/
  10. When the word inside is used as an adverb or preposition, the stress is on the second syllable /ˌɪnˈsaɪd/. However, when it is used as an adjective, the stress shifts to the first syllable /ˈɪn.saɪd/.
