IELTS Writing Task 2 Generation Gap

IELTS Writing Task 2 Generation Gap

Topic:

No matter how hard parents and children strive to consolidate the affinity between each other, the concept of generation gap has always been perceived. However, there has been controversy over whether generation gap has recently widened or narrowed in comparison to the past.

What is your stance on the current trend of generation gap compared to the past?

Essayist: Sasan

Generation gap has always been a matter of concern in all societies. Today, it is debatable whether or not the generation gap has increased recently. I personally believe the differences between old people and the young has been raised to a great extent.
These days, youngsters have more audacity compared to the past and as a result, they break taboos and customs easily. To illustrate it, the temerity of the new generation is not tolerable for the previous one, because the old have many strict ideas about lifestyle and they have lived with these attitudes for a long time. Moreover, in the recent competitive era, the young blood have to break out of their comfort zones in order to take a step up the progress ladder. So, they need to have innovation which leads to differences between two generations. In fact, relying on the old procedures cannot push the young forwards. So, all of the above mentioned reasons bring about wider discrepancies between two generations.
Furthermore, technology is progressing by leaps and bound in the world. To be more elaborate, today, there are many equipment and software programs which were beyond the imagination of the previous generation in the past. For instance, these days, people in different countries communicate with each other through email and social networks and digesting these technologies may be difficult for the old. As a result, there would be some differences between two generations, giving rise to conflicts and arguments.
In conclusion, it seems to me that the generation gap has widened recently owing to new technologies and the temerity of the young.
