Definition

lasting for a short time, transient, short-lived, fleeting, momentary, ephemeral, brief, evanescent, short-term, temporary, impermanent, passing, here today and gone tomorrow

Example

While the change in animal life is harder to document as animals are so transitory I certainly found my fair share of them, and if not the animal itself, it’s scat.

When I began I noticed the lizards who dominate the rocky dry riverbeds. By no means numerous they were still easy to find. In the river itself I discovered a pair of Orange Bellied Newts which would become the focus for an interesting seasonal change in the biotic community. These Newts roamed about the small calm pools formed by rocks at the edge of the creek moving in and out of the shadows.

Example

Ephemeral species are plants and animals whose lifespan lasts only a few weeks or months. The most common types of ephemeral species are desert annuals, plants whose seeds remain dormant for months or years but which quickly germinate, grow, and flower when rain does fall. In such cases the amount and frequency of rainfall determine entirely how frequently ephemerals appear and how long they last.

/ˌiː.vəˈnes.ənt/ US /ˌev.ə-/ (adj)

lasting for a short time, ephemeral, short-lived, impermanent, transient, fleeting, momentary, passing, brief

In electromagnetics, an evanescent field, or evanescent wave, is an oscillating electric and/or magnetic field that does not propagate as an electromagnetic wave but whose energy is spatially concentrated in the vicinity of the source (oscillating charges and currents). Even when there is a propagating electromagnetic wave produced (e.g., by a transmitting antenna), one can still identify as an evanescent field the component of the electric or magnetic field that cannot be attributed to the propagating wave observed at a distance of many wavelengths (such as the far field of a transmitting antenna).

Transient 1100 Words You Need Week 26 Day 4

/ˈtræn.zi.ənt/ (adj)

short-lived and ephemeral, impermanent, lasting for only a short time, temporary, short in duration, not permanently settled in a place, passing, brief, momentary, transitory, evanescent, someone living in a place temporarily, visitor, guest

The exact cause of depersonalization is unknown, although biopsychosocial correlations and triggers have been identified. Childhood interpersonal trauma – emotional abuse in particular – is a significant predictor of a diagnosis. The most common immediate precipitators of the disorder are severe stress, major depressive disorder and panic, and hallucinogen ingestion. People who live in highly individualistic cultures may be more vulnerable to depersonalization, due to threat hypersensitivity and an external locus of control.

One cognitive behavioral conceptualization is that misinterpreting normally transient dissociative symptoms as an indication of severe mental illness or neurological impairment leads to the development of the chronic disorder. This leads to a vicious cycle of heightened anxiety and symptoms of depersonalization and derealization.
