English Question about Taking Risks

What would induce you to give up life as you know it and face the unknown? Were people in previous centuries more adventurous than we are today, or was it simply harder to avoid risk and adventure? How much does affluence make people complacent and averse to risk?

  1. Being rich and happy and good friends well would induce me.And I realy think people in previous centuries more adventurous than we are today.I think pepole averse to risk very much.

    • Being unwilling to take risks, in my idea, is not limited to this time. We can more vividly notice this difference because our knowledge about lifestyles, psychology, and motivation has increased over time.

  2. I don’t consider myself a risk taker. I used to judge my grandparents and great-grandparents for not taking risks and not making new choices and then I got stuck in dilemmas and I understood how hard and challenging it could be.
I believe that people in the past were more adventurous, maybe because there were no social media.
And I’m not sure whether wealth makes people averse to risk or not for many people become rich by taking risks.

    • In your comment, I didn’t understand how social media can discourage people to take necessary risks and become more adventurous.

      • Because in the past people didn’t know what the outside world look like, and many of them traveled to discover that. But now with the help of the internet and social media we can have faster access to other parts of the world, e.g. what do they look like, what is other people’s cultures and how do they live, etc.

        • Thank you for your clarification. In the past, long before the advent of computers, technology, and especially the internet, people did not know much about the remote parts of the world. When there’s not enough knowledge or information, there might also be insufficient motivation to explore something or somewhere unclear. Thus, the availability of high-tech technology could raise some people’s spirits to become even more adventurous.
