Sum and Substance 1100 Words You Need Week 40 Day 2

the heart or substantial part of something, lion’s share, the essence or gist of something, core, meat, sum total, upshot, kernel, the central or most important idea, aspect or part of something

What’s the sum and substance of what you want to say? What or who are you responding to? Often, a press conference is a response to an event that has captured the public’s imagination. This is your chance to control the message, so it’s important to be clear with yourself.

Know what you want to say, why it needs to be said and how you’re going to say it. Define your goals: Are they to clarify a controversy or pressing issues? Or, are they to draw attention to something positive? Maybe it is to react to a negative news story or media criticisms. Write an outline of several key points you want to discuss. Be sure to include these key points in the press kit you hand out.
