/ˈgʌs.təʊ/ (noun)

great enthusiasm and energy, hearty enjoyment, lively enthusiasm, delight, pleasure, passion, zest

The concert began with great gusto with Rossini’s Thieving Magpie Overture, when the professional players in most sections of the orchestra were joined by a number of our Symphony Orchestra instrumentalists. Conducted by Mr Tamblyn, this rousing start was followed by Rutter’s The Lord Bless You and Keep You, which offered some moments of calm and contemplation from the Chamber Choir, under the direction of Mr Brimelow. Rounding off the first half was Poulenc’s Gloria, which was the main chorus’ first opportunity to sing and also included soprano solos by alumna Bethany Partridge (2006 – 2011).
