Question about modern medicine
As advancements in medical technology continue to accelerate, physicians are increasingly faced with complex ethical dilemmas. One such scenario involves the use of AI in diagnosing and treating patients. Imagine a situation where an AI system recommends a treatment plan that differs significantly from your professional judgment. The AI’s recommendation is based on vast amounts of data and predictive algorithms, while your decision is grounded in years of experience and understanding of the patient’s unique context.
How would you approach this conflict between technology and human expertise? What ethical considerations should guide your decision-making process? Discuss the potential benefits and risks of relying on AI in medical practice and reflect on how you would balance these factors to provide the best care for your patients.

ParticipantIn a situation like this, I try to approach with a structured and reflective mindset. First, I would seek to understand the rationale behind the AI’s recommendation. Then, I would compare that recommendation with current clinical guidelines. I also would consult with my colleagues. I would discuss both the AI recommendation and my own judgment with the patient. I think the patient should have the final say in the treatment plan after being fully informed. Ultimately, I think the goal is to enhance patient care through collaboration between technology and human expertise rather than allowing one to overshadow the other.
