English Conversation Class

Class Features:

Class Activities:

Round Table:

  • Round Table is a question-and-answer activity in English.
  • In each session, we will talk about a new interesting topic.
  • Our main conversation would be on the basis of the questions that the students make and leave in the yellow comment form at the bottom of the corresponding page.
  • You should make one single question about the topic of the next session and leave it in the yellow comment form at the bottom of the page of each conversation.
  • If you don’t make any question, you are NOT allowed to participate in that session.

Listening Practice:

  • For each session, you should watch and listen to a video/audio file on the page of the conversation before the class and prepare yourself for the corresponding questions about the file.
  • This activity is very similar to the Listening Section of the IELTS and TOEFL exam.
  • It is strongly recommended that you take notes while listening to or watching the file in order to be ready to answer the questions in the class.

Argue for/against:

  • In each session, there will be a highly challenging question about the topic being discussed.
  • You should respond to this question either positively or negatively (either yes or no).
  • If all of you agree or disagree on the question, then the teacher would play devil’s advocate. That is, he would pretend to disagree with you to have a heated argument with the students.

Photo Scanning:

  • In each session, there will be an ambiguous photo about the assigned topic together with a statement.
  • You should try to support the statement by referring to the details of the photo and scanning it.

Reaching a Conclusion:

  • It is attempted to come to an informed conclusion about the assigned topic at the end of each session.
  • It is strongly recommended that you take notes during each session so that you could use your own notes at the end of the session to reach a conclusion.

    Dr. Hariri

Would you rather be happy yet slow-witted and unimaginative, or unhappy yet bright and creative? For instance, would you rather live the life of a brilliant yet tortured artist, such as Vincent van Gogh, or that of a happy but carefree soul who is a bit simple-minded?

I prefer to challenge this question at first and bring up my viewpoint next.
There are different successful people in the world who reached the apex through different procedures. Although some have faced torture to reach their goals, it does not mean we have to necessarily lose something in our life to climb the ladder of success. Anyway, I suppose the most enjoyable part of life is making progress and relying on your abilities to flourish and thrive. So, I personally go for intelligence and innovation rather than happiness along with naivety. Many people have lived an ordinary life so far and repeating this story can never excite me at all. We need to gain new adventurous experiences and foster our abilities so as to break out of comfort zone.
