You’re right, Soroosh. The story of An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge is sad and somber, especially at then end when the main character is executed, while he’s not even aware of that.
I really enjoyed this story. Ambrose Bierce’s writing style made you feel deeply Farquahr’s terror and anxiety as if you were in his shoes.
This short story is a tragedy about the dire consequences of war that could target civilians as well. Despite being dead, Farquhar’s soul was so attached to his wife and children that he didn’t sense the pain and flew away toward his cherished family. However, to his chagrin, in the end, he found himself between his weeping wife and his broken body hanging from the bridge.
