Tyro 1100 Words You Need Week 46 Day 3

/ˈtaɪ.rəʊ/ (noun)

a novice or beginner in an activity, rookie, amateur, learner, neophyte, newcomer, initiate, fledgling, apprentice, trainee, probationer, newbie, greenhorn, callow

I am relatively new to the ballroom (though I have danced for 10+ years in other genres), and I think I’ve honestly found a new love of my life. I’m currently entering my final year in college and I would like to continue studying ballroom and competing in it. Since I’m finishing my schooling, the issue of a career is on my mind. Most of the people on my team love dancing, as well, but they regard it as “just a hobby,” which, for me, is something I feel I cannot agree with – dancing seems like more than a hobby for me. Yet, I realize that there are many amateur dancers as tyros for whom dancing seems to be their driving force in life and their job is there to support that.

So, my questions focus around understanding the differences between amateur and professional dancing lifestyles and how to go about being one or both of them.
