Intrinsic rewards come from within, such as the satisfaction of a job well done. Extrinsic and intrinsic rewards can be motivators that guide your career choice. Employees in the field of human services often find both extrinsic and intrinsic rewards in their line of work.

Extrinsic rewards are those you receive from others. In elementary school, for example, students may receive a sticker for getting all the words right on a spelling test. Throughout school, students get grades in every subject. Studies have shown that students are generally more motivated when they know their performance will be judged.
