What is artificial intelligence?
A number of definitions of artificial intelligence (AI) have surfaced over the last few decades. John McCarthy offers the following definition in this 2004 paper: “It is the science and engineering of making intelligent machines, especially intelligent computer programs. It is related to the similar task of using computers to understand human intelligence, but AI does not have to confine itself to methods that are biologically observable.”

Robots and artificial intelligence
Robotics and artificial intelligence are two related but entirely different fields. Robotics involves the creation of robots to perform tasks without further intervention, while AI is how systems emulate the human mind to make decisions and ‘learn.’
While you can have robotics with an AI element (and vice versa), both can, and usually do, exist independently of each other. For most robots, designed to perform simple, repetitive tasks, there’s no need for advanced AI as the duties are simple, predictable and pre-programmed.

Artificial intelligence and unemployment
In 2018, a report from the World Economic Forum estimated that AI would create a net total of 58 million new jobs by 2022. The report also posits that AI will displace or eliminate 75 million jobs by 2022 and that the net increase will encompass 133 million brand-new roles.
Another report from the World Economic Forum in 2021 estimated that by 2025, 97 million new jobs will be created courtesy of AI. Many of these jobs will also likely not follow the traditional full-time employment model that we are familiar with today. Instead, more employers are expected to expand their remote workforces and rely on contractors for the bulk of their personnel needs.

Artificial intelligence is a technology that enables a machine to simulate human behavior. Machine learning is a subset of AI which allows a machine to automatically learn from past data without programming explicitly. The goal of AI is to make a smart computer system like humans to solve complex problems. The goal of ML is to allow machines to learn from data so that they can give accurate output. In AI, we make intelligent systems to perform any task like a human. In ML, we teach machines with data to perform a particular task and give an accurate result. Machine learning and deep learning are the two main subsets of AI. Deep learning is the main subset of machine learning. AI has a very wide range of scope.
