I really was not a fan of this story (Little Thumbelina) but it was a really nice story and we can take a lot of notes and huge messages from it!
From what you said, I can conclude that Little Thumbelina is quite an informative and insightful story. It seems strange, though, why you did not like this fairy tale.
As a child, I was a huge fan of fairy tale stories, but I have never read this one. Thumbelina is overall a kind creature. We can see this when she tried to help the swallow. Later on, the swallow returned the favor and helped her escaped from the mole. I really liked the ending, when the swallow narrates his sad story to the writer himself.
