Actually I haven’t see a mermaid story be so scary and different from the others .
It was interesting and I want to know what does murmured means?
To murmur means to say something softly and quietly in an indistinct manner.
When I was a kid, I watched the animation but there were a few differences with this original story. I don’t think that the little mermaid’s choice was wise because the consequences were very high but I don’t want to judge her for I wasn’t in her shoes and I assume her emotional choice for her young age. And I found the ending sad and depressing. I wish she could have a better life like Ariel in the animated version.
The ending is quite distinct in the original fairy tale and the animated version, as correctly pointed out by you. The little mermaid makes a huge sacrifice by choosing to die instead of murdering the prince. In so doing, she’ll be serving humanity for almost three centuries.
