Anon 601 Words You Need to Know

Anon 601 Words You Need to Know

/əˈnɒn/ (adv & noun)

Definition

Adverb: right away, soon, shortly, in a while, immediately, by and by, before long, directly, in a little while, presently, in a moment

Noun: Anon. = written abbreviation for anonymous

Example

Do other people use “anon” (meaning “soon”), specifically in the expression “See you anon”? Or is it something unusual that I picked up from my mother’s side of the family? My dictionary describes the word as being archaic or literary but I disagree.

Well, it isn’t widely used these days, so I suppose “archaic” is not an unreasonable term to describe it. I can’t think of many (well, perhaps any) writers since Shakespeare who have used it with any frequency.
