Fossil Fuels | An IELTS Essay Sample

Topic

Environmentalists insist that fossil fuels, including coal, oil, etc., be replaced by renewable sources of energy that are naturally replenished, such as sunlight, wind, waves, and the like.

What is your idea about the necessity of this campaign for the replacement? Furnish your perspective with reasons.

The Essayist: Sasan

Nowadays, it is too indispensable to find a replacement for fossil fuels which are double-edged swords. I personally believe that the authorities must take some steps in order to cease damaging the earth and go through other sources of energy.

Initially, it is proved scientifically that the usages of oil and fossil fuels have enormous drawbacks. For instance, the generation of greenhouse gases is really harmful. Not only are these dangerous gases injurious to humankind but also they are the root causes of global warming which is a harbinger of catastrophic events in the future such as droughts, floods, thunderstorms, etc.

One more point, fossil fuels are not available forever and if humans rely only on these sorts of energy they will be confronted with many issues in the future. So, as far-sighted creatures, we need to facilitate the usages of renewable resources. For example, people should develop their technologies in order to take advantage of wind, sun, the tide, and so on.

✅ Error Correction:

  • Paragraph 1, Line 2: take steps to do sth / toward doing sth / toward sth
  • Paragraph 2, Line 1: usage (singular), and accordingly, “has” enormous drawbacks
  • Paragraph 2, Line 2: When you use the correlative conjunction of ‘not only … but also’ and ‘not only’ is located at the beginning of your sentence, then it is recommended that you use a comma before ‘but also’.
  • Paragraph 3, Line 2: usage (singular)
  • Last Line: … take advantage of the wind, sun, tide, and so on (‘the’ before ‘wind’ is used for ‘wind’, ‘tide’ and ‘sun’.)
