Take the bull by the horns

Take the bull by the horns

to do something difficult in a brave and determined way, take the plunge, bite the bullet, take the initiative, go for it, dive in, face the music, take a drastic action in a difficult situation:

If you are entrusted by someone to take the bull by the horns — that is, to totally take charge and make proper decisions—then do it! Grab the bull by the horns whenever you can. Go beyond good intention and skill to become a self-driven individual. It’s the only way to get the bull down or to be totally in control. Take advantage of the opportunity. But you must do it right. Don’t ever ask for help or for what to do if the task is a critical one for you. Define your vision and your work efforts yourself. Go to meetings prepared on what you want or will do. Take the bull by the horns and be in charge whenever the opportunity presents itself.

From the book “Seeking the Edge, Thoughts on Wisdom and Success”

Why don’t you take the bull by the horns and tell him to leave?

Antonym: hold back

French: prendre des mesures drastiques

Farsi: در موقعیت بحرانی، دست به عمل زدن و اقدام کردن
