At LELB Society, we believe that learning English should go beyond memorizing vocabulary and grammar rules. Language becomes truly meaningful when it is used to explore ideas, express opinions, and connect with other people. Our English Film Criticism Class was created with this philosophy in mind. Held live once a week for one hour, this interactive class gives our members an opportunity to improve their English while discussing thought-provoking films with fellow learners.
The class is completely free for all active members and subscribers of LELB Society. Whether you are an intermediate or advanced learner, you will find a welcoming community where everyone is encouraged to share ideas, ask questions, and learn collaboratively. Each session focuses on a carefully selected English-language film, making every meeting both educational and enjoyable.

Learn English Through Great Psychological and Philosophical Films
The films we choose are far more than sources of entertainment. We carefully select movies that explore psychological, philosophical, ethical, and social themes that inspire meaningful conversations. These films challenge us to think critically, understand different perspectives, and reflect on life while practicing English in authentic contexts.

This approach perfectly reflects the philosophy behind our name and motto: Learn English to Live Better (LELB Society). We believe that learning a language should also contribute to personal growth. By discussing themes such as motivation, identity, resilience, morality, relationships, and human behavior, learners develop both their English proficiency and their understanding of the world.
Every film opens the door to new vocabulary, natural expressions, cultural insights, and stimulating discussions that simply cannot be found in traditional textbooks.
Practice All Four English Skills Through Skill Integration
One of the strongest features of our film criticism class is its emphasis on skill integration. Rather than practicing reading, writing, listening, and speaking separately, participants naturally use all four language skills throughout the learning process.
Before each live session, members read the assigned article or introduction about the selected film on our website. This preparation strengthens reading comprehension while introducing useful vocabulary and background information.
Next, participants watch the film in English, developing their listening comprehension by hearing authentic conversations, pronunciation, and natural speech patterns used by native speakers.
After watching the film, learners write comments, analyses, questions, or personal reflections beneath the lesson on our website. This writing activity encourages thoughtful language production while allowing members to exchange ideas asynchronously before the live discussion.
Finally, everyone meets online for the weekly one-hour class to discuss the film together. During this collaborative session, learners express opinions, defend interpretations, ask questions, and respond to one another in English. This speaking practice builds confidence, improves fluency, and creates a genuine communicative environment.
Because every activity supports the others, learners experience English as a complete communication system rather than a collection of isolated skills.
More Than 70 Inspiring Films Analyzed So Far
Our English Film Criticism Class has become one of the most popular group activities at LELB Society. Over the years, we have analyzed more than 70 outstanding films, covering a wide variety of genres and ideas.
From psychological dramas and philosophical masterpieces to inspiring stories of resilience and self-discovery, every selected film offers valuable opportunities for language learning and intellectual discussion.
This growing collection of film analyses has also become an educational archive that reflects years of collaborative learning. New members can explore previous discussions, compare different interpretations, and continue learning from the insights shared by our community.
Each new film adds another chapter to this ongoing educational journey, ensuring that there is always something fresh to discover.

In addition, active members receive unrestricted access to more than 4,600 video-based lessons across 28 educational categories. These resources cover English, Persian, academic subjects, technology, communication skills, and much more. Throughout their learning journey, members receive continuous guidance and feedback from our experienced bilingual teachers, creating a supportive environment where questions are always welcome.
Together, these services provide a comprehensive learning experience that combines self-paced study with collaborative activities and expert support.
Why Film-Based Learning Makes English More Meaningful
Films expose learners to authentic English as it is naturally spoken in everyday situations. They present realistic conversations, emotional interactions, diverse accents, body language, and cultural references that textbooks alone cannot fully capture.
Beyond language itself, films encourage learners to think critically, analyze characters’ motivations, interpret symbolism, and discuss complex ideas. These intellectual activities naturally require richer vocabulary, more accurate grammar, and greater communicative confidence.
The collaborative nature of our discussions also helps learners become active participants rather than passive observers. By exchanging opinions respectfully, asking follow-up questions, and supporting interpretations with evidence from the film, members gradually develop stronger communication skills that extend far beyond the classroom.
Learning English through meaningful cinema transforms language study into an engaging and memorable experience.
