Dr. Mohammad Hossein Hariri AslKeymasterCast Away has taught me a bunch of great lessons. When I watched it for the first time around 20 years ago, I was thinking whether one can live alone happily or not. Depending on your personality, especially whether you’re introverted or extroverted, the answer to this question might vary.
I noticed that the director intentionally did not use much music throughout the film except for a couple of scenes. That was a right decision as the sound of nature was supposed to be the background music of this inspiring movie.
Cast Away made me deem that nothing is predictable in this world. As Chuck was treating a cut on his thumb with a band aid, all of a sudden, he was blown away and experienced almost the worst on the falling plane. Then on the island, which was both picturesque and menacing at the same time, Chuck had to take the bull by the horns. He was not trained for such that calamity. Yet through trial and error, he had to get the hang of the essential survival skills, such as setting a fire, fishing, and taking necessary risks.
Wilson, his only friend as a volleyball ball with a human face printed in his own blood and the picture of his fiancée were Chuck’s only companions over the passage of four years of sheer seclusion, and he was ready to kill himself to save Wilson.
The main message of Cast Away is HOPE. Logically, he was not expected to be found through the calculations he made on the cave wall. Nevertheless, as he put it, Chuck kept breathing and remained optimistic.
The ending of Cast Away was so sad to me. He said, “I have now ice in my glass, but I’ve lost her, Kelly, all over again”. At least, on the island, he thought Kelly was with him, which was wishful thinking. However, this didn’t break the champion as he said, “tomorrow the sun will rise and who knows what the tide will bring!”

Dr. Mohammad Hossein Hariri AslKeymasterSaving Private Ryan is an anti-war film directed by Steven Spielberg to depict the unjust and futile aspects of war leading to genocide and slaughter of many people even civilians including women and innocent children.
At first glance, it seems unfair to jeopardize the lives of many other soldiers to find and rescue James Ryan, the only survivor of a bereft family lamenting the loss of his three other brothers. Nevertheless, when the plot unfolded, after so much sacrifice, James Ryan refuses to be saved and escorted back to his mourning family.
This reunion grants the troops more motivation to combat against Germans under the command of Captain Miller, who was once a schoolteacher. The film shows that war can change people so much and transform a schoolteacher into a machinegun, a warrior who should not hesitate to kill the enemies in the battlefield, and it was the blatant mistake he made about Willie, the German captive or prisoner who was set free.
Dr. Mohammad Hossein Hariri AslKeymasterA Man for All Seasons is the biography of Sir Thomas More who became a saint or a holy person only after his death because he was a man of principles and integrity. St. Thomas More did not acquiesce to decadence, corruption, and bribery and stood up against injustice with his special witticism and honesty. He did not sell his soul to the devil in return for a high position or authority.

Dr. Mohammad Hossein Hariri AslKeymasterSome people are just more talented or blessed with the sixth sense. We can say they’re more intuitive by nature.
In my idea, the little boy didn’t tell Dr. Malcom about him being a ghost because he thought Dr. Malcom was already aware of that.May 7, 2023 at 8:02 pm in reply to: The Sixth Sense Movie Review & Analysis in Film Criticism #117006
Dr. Mohammad Hossein Hariri AslKeymasterAs a horror movie with a ghost story, The Sixth Sense is a success. However, I didn’t like the name selected for this movie. I consider the sixth sense to be more comprehensive and broader. It should not be limited to communicating with the dead. In my idea, the sixth sense and intuition are mysterious abilities or talents that are inborn and could be acquired to some extent through critical thinking, gaining general knowledge about the fundamentals of the universe, meditation, and the like.
The ending of the movie was a big surprise for me. If I got the story right, the child psychologist was a ghost in the film from the first moment when he saw the clairvoyant boy, and I had no idea about that until the last moment.
Dr. Mohammad Hossein Hariri AslKeymasterAwakenings is a great film based on a true story in which a compassionate neurologist is willing to go the extra mile to help the patients unconditionally in a mental institution or psychiatric hospital. He constantly thinks outside the box and practices critical thinking to come up with practical and actionable methods to treat the patients, such as checking their reflexes, applying music therapy, putting new medications to use, and making close observations on the patients.
This movie opened my mind to my healthy mind and body, which is most of the time taken for granted. I really liked the message in Dr. Sayer’s speech at the end of the film when he said, “Human spirit is more powerful than any drug”.

Dr. Mohammad Hossein Hariri AslKeymasterFantastic Mr. Fox is a comic animated movie that emphasizes the importance of change in life. Despite being a wild animal, ordinary Mr. Fox alters the course of his life and his family to become Fantastic Mr. Fox. Mr. Fox turns out to be extremely successful and happy by combating his own nature and nurturing his talents and behavior. The film is intended to teach us that in the dichotomy of nature vs. nurture, the latter plays a much more significant role in determining one’s fate. For this reason, this great movie is aimed at instilling existentialism into the minds of its viewers.

Dr. Mohammad Hossein Hariri AslKeymasterInterstellar aroused different emotions in me because it juxtaposed emotionality and science with each other. If I were in the main character’s shoes, I wouldn’t be strong enough – as he was – to leave my daughter, the very scene that made some tears roll down from my eyes.
The film was so influential, thanks to its great visual effects and story, in transferring some knowledge about black holes, wormholes, and the concept of time being so relative. Despite being a relatively long movie, I didn’t feel bored with it as it made me genuinely curious to see the ending.
The film opened up my mind and encouraged me to think more holistically about the entire universe. At the same time, I learned to cherish and treasure the existence of the people I love, especially my daughter.

Dr. Mohammad Hossein Hariri AslKeymasterAfter more than 5 decades from the release of this Stanley Kubrick’s masterpiece, there’s still much room for analysis and positive criticism. This is largely because the story or screenplay is so ahead of its time.
In the first section, and in the 3 subsequent ones, the monolith is the key to evolution and civilization. This evolution goes on until the protagonist becomes invincible.
I should also point it out that the classical music of the film was a wise selection as it’s created a deep and great ambience in the film. After 2001: A Space Odyssey, this classical music has been the prototype of almost all moving pictures about space.
Dr. Mohammad Hossein Hariri AslKeymasterGroundhog Day is a special movie that superficially seems to be comic. Nevertheless, upon more consideration, you can realize that it’s a great movie with moral lessons. The loop of time in which Bill Murray was trapped taught him precious lessons and made him be a changed person gradually. This gradual change in his attitude is at the center of the film.
Groundhog Day has influenced me significantly as I’ve learned to add spice and dynamism to my life and get away from routines. I learned that even immortality could be intolerable, and helping and loving others can open your heart and mind. Loving others is the message we hear from extremely old people who are dealing with death.
Phil voluntarily helped the beggar on the street. He also moved forward from romance to pure love toward Rita, and above all, he mindfully kept distance from egocentrism and vanity and got closer to philanthropy and benevolence.
I also learned that conscious changes are always good. I cannot forget it when Phil, in the end, said, “today is finally tomorrow!”

Dr. Mohammad Hossein Hariri AslKeymasterI’m glad you liked this movie so much that you ranked it 10 of 10. As you said, Danny was so smart and acted so well in his role. In fact, Danny and the cook were the only people who could see the Shining. Danny’s parents were literally blind to the shining, and therefore, couldn’t see the menace or threat that was just in the corner.

Dr. Mohammad Hossein Hariri AslKeymasterThe ending of the film meant that Jack was supposed to be dead in the hotel and it was a part of his destiny. That’s why his picture in a black suit alongside the other dead residents of the hotel was hanging from the wall of the Overlook Hotel.
March 29, 2023 at 1:20 pm in reply to: The Shining Movie Review in Film Criticism Course Forum #115888
Dr. Mohammad Hossein Hariri AslKeymasterThe Shining movie has borrowed its name from our shining instinct of intuition that was more shining and stronger in Danny compared to his parents. In fact, Danny’s imaginary friend who lived in his mouth was so clairvoyant. In addition, the film centralizes the concept of déjà vu as Jack said he had seen the hotel before. In Danny’s case, it was premonition or prewarning.
The shining could be classified as both horror and psychological movies. It is a horror movie because at the beginning of the film, we realized that the hotel had been built on a burial ground. On the other side, from a psychological point of view, any person in their situation could develop some mental disorders, like hallucination, schizophrenia, and so forth.
Furthermore, the English proverb of “all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy” was reechoed in this film when Jack had written nothing but this phrase on the typewriter.
March 21, 2023 at 2:48 am in reply to: The Bucket List Movie Analysis in Film Criticism Course #115669
Dr. Mohammad Hossein Hariri AslKeymasterThe Bucket List movie is intended to teach us how to get the most out of our limited time. Life is precious and should be treated with care and awareness. In this film, cancer brought joy and excitement to the mundane lives of the main 2 actors. This is because they were determined to manage their time more precisely. From this point of view, this film has something to do with The Dead Poets Society, in which the concept of carpe diem is centralized.
